Russia Says Armenia's EU Ties Require Legal Solutions

Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said Moscow views legal conflicts arising from Armenia's European aspirations as a routine matter requiring dialogue and professional cooperation, not political confrontation.

Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Overchuk acknowledged tensions between Armenia's growing ties to the European Union and its membership in the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). He described the situation as a "working situation" that should be addressed through legal mechanisms.

Overchuk noted that current EAEU legislation contains no provisions for excluding or suspending member states. He said Armenian representatives are expected to participate in discussions aimed at addressing legal gaps within the EAEU framework. While Russia has expressed concerns about business uncertainty stemming from Armenia's pro-European course, Overchuk stressed that the issue should be resolved through calm, professional engagement rather than political escalation.
