Russia Restricts Armenian Agricultural Imports Starting June

Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance announced new import restrictions on Armenian agricultural products effective June 3, 2026, including pome fruits, eggplants, potatoes, and dried fruits. The agency also banned transit of these goods through Russia to other Eurasian Economic Union members, citing absent mechanisms to confirm safe delivery to destination countries.

The restrictions follow a series of measures imposed in late May targeting fresh vegetables, berries, and stone fruits. Russia also limited veterinary certification for live fish and fish products from Armenian companies, with exceptions for two enterprises that passed inspections.

Rosselkhoznadzor attributed the escalating restrictions to structural problems in Armenia's Ministry of Economy, which assumed agricultural oversight responsibilities after the 2019 dissolution of the separate Ministry of Agriculture. The measures represent significant trade limitations for Armenia, as Russia is a major market for Armenian agricultural exports.
