Israeli strikes kill dozens in Lebanon as tensions escalate

At least 31 people, including several children, were killed in intensive Israeli military strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon on Tuesday, according to Lebanon's health ministry. The Israeli military reported hitting more than 100 Hezbollah infrastructure sites and fighter positions in one of the heaviest bombardment nights since a U.S.-brokered ceasefire began in mid-April.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this week he had instructed forces to "press the pedal even harder" against Hezbollah and stated at a security cabinet meeting that Israel was "deepening our operation in Lebanon."

Early Wednesday, sirens sounded in northern Israel after a projectile was launched from Lebanon, though the Israeli military said it fell in an open area with no injuries reported.
