Hungary Halts Work Visas for Armenian Citizens

Hungary will stop issuing new work visas to Armenian citizens beginning June 6, according to government spokesperson Vanda Szondi. The policy change also applies to workers from the Philippines and Georgia as part of the newly elected government's effort to restrict foreign labor inflow.

Armenian citizens already employed in Hungary may still apply for visa extensions, and applications submitted before the deadline will continue processing. The measure represents the first step in a broader plan by Prime Minister Peter Magyar's Tisza party to control guest worker recruitment through simplified procedures.

While foreign workers comprise only about 2 percent of Hungary's workforce, several sectors including manufacturing and services depend significantly on international labor. Some major foreign investors have warned that stricter restrictions could harm businesses and Hungary's economy.
