EAEU Leaders Meet in Astana; Armenia Sends Deputy PM

Leaders of the Eurasian Economic Union convened in Astana, Kazakhstan on Friday for a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (SEEC), the bloc's highest governing body. Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov attended the closed-door session at the Independence Palace.

Armenia was represented by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, as Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not attend due to Armenia's ongoing election campaign. According to Russian officials, Armenia's role within the EAEU and the possibility of withdrawal from the bloc are expected to be key discussion points. The agenda also covers current economic cooperation challenges, the bloc's development strategy through 2029, natural monopoly regulation, and a review of the Eurasian Development Bank's 20-year performance.
