Armenian Parliamentary Elections Held Amid Electoral Disputes
By hook or by crook: Pashinyan secures another five years in power
Armenia held parliamentary elections on June 6, with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party securing approximately 50 percent of votes, or around 700,000 citizens. According to reporting, the election was marked by allegations of irregularities, including accusations that the government used state resources for campaigning, arrested opposition members, and restricted voting access for certain populations including Artsakh Armenians and diaspora citizens attempting to vote from abroad.
The election took place against the backdrop of ongoing criticism of Pashinyan's governance, particularly regarding Armenia's military losses in 2020 and the subsequent loss of Artsakh territory in 2023. The results will allow Pashinyan to serve another five-year term as prime minister.
